How We Made our "Twilight Kisses" Centerpiece

For those of you who are interested, here's how Twi-K and I made another one of the Twilight centerpieces that we brought to the Twilight Convention in San Francisco. We called this centerpiece "Twilight Kisses" because it included Hershey's Chocolate Kisses, and because the Convention was held on Valentine's Day weekend (February 12th-14th, 2010).

The materials for this centerpiece included a heart-shaped candy dish, a few bags of Hershey's Kisses, a vase with red (silk) roses, a black Styrofoam display board, black ribbon to trim the board, a heart-shaped crystal (for Edward's heart), and the four Twilight symbols on the book covers: a red apple (for Twilight), a ruffled tulip (for New Moon), a torn red ribbon (for Eclipse), and a chess board with a white queen and red pawn (for Breaking Dawn).

We bought the candy dish at a party supply store, the Hershey kisses at the local grocery store, the vase, silk roses, red apple, red and black ribbon, and white tulip at local craft stores. Twi-K already had the heart-shaped crystal and chess pieces. We used a piece (16 inches by 20 inches) of the same black Styrofoam board that we bought at a hobby store for our other Twilight centerpiece, "Bella's Dream".

Twi-K painted the white tulip with red paint to make it look ruffled, and she used a piece of white cardboard and black marker to make the chess board. She painted the pawn with red nail polish, and she tore the ribbon to match the ribbon on the cover of Eclipse. Twi-K also provided a rose-colored, heart-cut crystal (Edward's heart).

Then we assembled everything on the board, with the Twilight symbols positioned around the board, the vase of red roses and crystal heart at the back, and the dish of chocolates at the front (yum!)

As a final step, we taped a black ribbon (using double-sided tape) around the edge of the Styrofoam base to finish off the centerpiece.

I really enjoyed making this centerpiece with Twi-K. Even if it didn't win the centerpiece contest, you can never go wrong with a plate full of Hershey's chocolates! :-)
