Alma-Marie's review of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse movie

I just saw the premier of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse at our local Century theater with Twi-K and a few of our friends. We saw the "Twilight Trilogy" showing of all three Twilight films in a row. It was nice to see Twilight and New Moon on the big screen again, and to put Eclipse into the context of what came before.

I liked Eclipse a lot. It had a nice balance of romance and action, with a dark edge and a bit of humor. Thank you, David Slade, for a job well done!

Warning: Minor spoiler alerts ahead (especially if you haven't read the book.)

My Favorite Bits
- My favorite song from the soundtrack ("My Love" by Sia) played during my favorite scene.
- I recognized the mountain top where Bella and Jacob shared a key moment. My husband and I also shared a moment on that same mountain top on our first wedding anniversary, so that was very cool!
- I loved the dark, edgy scenes of the newborn vampires in Seattle.
- I loved the "theatrical" costume Rosalie wore when she got her vengeance on Royce! Go Rosalie!
- I loved the bed scene in Edward's room, and the dialog between Bella and Edward.
- I loved the tension in the tent scene.
- I loved Charlie every time he was on screen. He's such a cool dad.
- I loved learning Jasper's back story, and watching him take the lead role in fight training.
- Samuel Xavier did a great job portraying Riley. He was actually more menacing than Victoria!
- There were lots of close-ups and tight camera work, which made the story feel more intimate and brought me right into the action. (It also helped to have a huge floor-to-ceiling movie screen.)
- The battle scenes and special effects were especially good, although the wolves didn't seem quite as large and scary as they were in New Moon. Maybe because they're the good guys now?
- It was really nice to see Bree Tanner and a bit more of her story.
- I loved that Taylor really stepped up his role as Jacob emotionally. Even though I am a Team Edward fan, I actually considered switching to Team Jacob in this movie!

My Wish List
- I wish they explained more about the bed and Bella's reaction to it before Edward arrived.
- I wish Edward's character didn't seem so distant in this film. I didn't feel the connection as much between him and Bella.
- I wish they didn't have to use so many wigs. The wigs were slightly distracting to me.
- I wish they showed Rosalie's longing for a child of her own. I thought that background detail was essential to understanding her character.
- I wish they showed Bella's glimpse of a possible future with Jacob, and her heartbreak at losing him.

The end of the movie definitely had me wanting more…I can hardly wait to see what happens in Breaking Dawn!

Eclipse Movie and its Record $30M Midnight Launch!

From Box Office Mojo:

'Eclipse' Rises with Record Midnight Launch
by Brandon Gray
The Twilight Saga: Eclipse

June 30, 2010

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse ripped into the record books with its midnight launch, grossing over $30 million at more than 4,000 theaters. That surpassed The Twilight Saga: New Moon's previous benchmark of $26.3 million. Included in Eclipse's sum was a new IMAX midnight milestone of over $1 million at 192 venues, topping Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen's $959,000.

Additionally, the first Twilight and New Moon were re-issued as a one-off, pre-Eclipse double-feature Thursday night at 2,037 theaters and made $2.4 million. Previously, Twilight took in $1.3 million in its re-issue the night before New Moon's opening.

Twi-K and I did our part to help Eclipse set the midnight launch record last night. I'll be posting my Eclipse movie review later this evening!

Excited about Eclipse Movie Tomorrow!

Hi all! I'm so excited about seeing Eclipse late tomorrow night (Tuesday, June 29th!)

Twi-K, I, and a few of our friends are attending a special showing at our local Century theater called "The Twilight Trilogy," where we get to see Twilight at 7:15 pm, then New Moon, then Eclipse at midnight!

I called the theater, and they plan to do some Twilight giveaways and other fun activities before each of the movies, all sponsored by the movie studio.

Also, I've been listening to the Eclipse soundtrack all day, trying to figure out where the songs will be placed in the movie.

So, what have you been doing to get ready to see the Eclipse movie? Let us know!

How we made our Eclipse Centerpiece

Here is how Twi-K and I made our Eclipse centerpiece that we displayed at the Volturi Vampire Ball at the Eclipse Convention in Los Angeles.

Since we had already made the Bella's Dream centerpiece (and won the Twilight Centerpiece contest at the San Francisco convention back in February), we wanted to make another scene, this time from Eclipse. The tent scene, with Bella, Edward, Jacob, and Seth (in wolf form) seemed like the perfect choice.

Alma-Marie's Review of the LA Eclipse Convention (part 3)

Volturi Vampire Ball Photos
Twi-K and I bought the Cullen Crest A package, which included the Friday Night Gala Volturi Vampire Ball. Twi-K dressed up as Victoria from Eclipse, and I dressed up as Rosalie from New Moon (in the black dress from Bella's birthday party). We also made a centerpiece of the tent scene from Eclipse.

Click here to see how we made our Eclipse tent scene centerpiece.

Alma Marie's Review of LA Eclipse Convention (part 2)

Now that I'm back from vacation, here's part two of my review of the Los Angeles Eclipse Convention.

Disneyland Visit and Celebrity Sightings

Sorry I haven't had a chance to post for a while.

I've been very busy with our visiting niece (who's definitely NOT a Twilight fan) and going to Disneyland (we just returned last night). So now I'm back, and ready to post!

My family had a blast at Disneyland--we saw the new World of Color water show, and it was spectacular! If you're visiting Disneyland, you need to get Fast Pass tickets to the show first thing in the morning beside the Grizzy River Run ride in California Adventure, to get the best view of the show.

And speaking of the Grizzly River Run ride, I happened to see a major Twilight celebrity shopping with their family in the gift store beside the ride. The celebrity (I won't name them) stood right behind me in line at the cashier. I heard their voice, recognized them, and stared at them for a moment, wondering what to do.

The celebrity looked back at me, waiting to see my reaction, with a look on their face that said, "Please don't." So I smiled and said nothing. I turned around and bought our souvenirs, then left the store. All the while, I kept thinking, should I say something? But in the end, I decided to respect their privacy with their family, although I was quietly freaking out about it.

After I left the store, I looked back and noticed that the celebrity had covered up with a big hat and glasses, and left the park quickly with their family. No one else had noticed them, that I could see.

The next day, my family saw Miley Cyrus trying to walk through the LAX airport to her limo. She was being mobbed by the paparizzi and one crazed fan who wanted Miley to sign two pink kiddie guitars for him. Miley looked very upset, and the situation looked dangerous with everyone attacking her.

I felt very sorry for Miley, and was really glad that I'd respected the privacy of the Twilight celebrity at Disneyland. Sometimes, we fans forget that celebrities are real people with families who sometimes just want to enjoy themselves on vacation, like the rest of us.

So, what would you do if you saw a celebrity with their family at Disneyland? I'm posting this question in the sidebar to see what you would do in that situation.

Kristen Stewart Know where she want Breaking Dawn to split!

Kristen Stewart tells AP Television, "I feel like it's so obvious where you break it up. It's as soon as she turns." She also states, "Gosh, you open your eyes to this different world right? That would be amazing." Taylor Lautner said he approved Stewards idea.

This is going to be a long 17 months, waiting!

Alma Marie's Review of LA Eclipse Convention (part 1)

First, I want to thank Creation Entertainment for the outstanding job they did on this Eclipse Convention! Everything about the convention (except for a few problems with the sound system) was well done, professional, and very user-friendly. Now for my review and photos.

Overall
The hotel (Hyatt Regency Century City) was very nice to stay in, and the staff were friendly and accommodating. The decorations for the main ballroom, vendor area, and Vampire Ball were all very upscale and attractive. Twi-K and I still had money left over from our gift certificate for winning the Twilight Centerpiece contest in San Francisco back in February, so we had fun spending our money in the Vendors area. Our room was clean and roomy, and had a nice view of downtown Century City (and the local mall).

Registration
We had no trouble registering for our Cullen Crest A weekend passes. We received an Eclipse lanyard and a purple bracelet that allowed us into all of the events.

Hillywood Hosts
As usual, I enjoyed watching the Hillywood cast hosting the event and the Volturi Vampire Ball. It was also fun to watch their Twilight and New Moon parodies. It was cool to learn that they used Scottie's Castle in Death Valley as the location for Volterra. And it was very cool to see Hillywood Jasper meet movie Jasper!

Here are a few photos from the weekend to get started. I'll add more details later in another post (part 2). Enjoy!

Another Eclipse trailer at the MTV Movie Awards

Here's another Eclipse trailer, courtesy of the MTV Movie Awards show:

It looks like David Slade changed the scene where Jacob visits Bella at school. I wonder what other changes he's made in the movie? Still no details of the tent scene--I guess they want to keep us in suspense.

Enjoy!

Results of 2010 MTV Movie Awards

Congratulations to The Twilight Saga: New Moon and all of its stars for cleaning up at the MTV Movie Awards last night!

New Moon won for Best Movie, Kristen Stewart won for Best Female Performance, Rob Pattinson won for Best Male Performance and Global Superstar, and Kristen Stewart and Rob Pattinson together won for Best Kiss.

Also, congrats to Anna Kendrick who won for Best Breakout Star, even though it was for her "other" big movie, Up in the Air. As usual, she looked amazing.

I thought both Kristen and Rob both looked great, too, even with Rob's new haircut (which is growing on me), but I didn't really enjoy Kristen pushing Rob away instead of letting him kiss her. I'm glad Rob got a kiss at the end, but he really had to work for it.

It's hard to believe that Twi-K and I will be seeing these same stars in less than a week at the Eclipse Convention in LA. I can hardly wait for Friday to come!

Also, I just got my "Short Second Life of Bree Tanner" book, so I'm off to read it. I plan to post my review of it as soon as I'm done!

23 days to Eclipse!

Global Superstar (Kristen, Rob, or Taylor)
Best Movie (New Moon, of course!)

Don't forget to watch the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday night!

Eclipse Celebrities we hope to see at the Convention!

Here are all the Eclipse celebrities that are scheduled to appear at next weekend's Eclipse Convention in Los Angeles! I am so excited to see them all!

Update on Rosalie Costume and Eclipse Centerpiece

Rosalie Costume for the Volturi Vampire Ball
I finally assembled all of the clothing and accessories for my Rosalie costume for next week's Eclipse Convention in LA! I've got the black dress, the killer black shoes, Rosalie's pendant necklace and chandelier earrings. All I need now is to figure out the hair and makeup.

By the way, I've seen some of Twi-K's costume, and she's going to look spectacular as Victoria!

I'll post lots of photos and details describing how I achieved the "Rosalie look" after Twi-K and I return from the Convention.

Eclipse Centerpiece
Today I visited our local hobby store to get the materials to build our Eclipse Centerpiece. I don't want to give too much away before the Convention, but I will post lots of photos and details about how I created this scene, too.

Hint: I'll be spending the weekend making and painting lots of rocks!

Update: Click here to see how I put together my Rosalie Costume for the Ball. Click here to see how we made our Eclipse centerpiece (the Tent Scene.)

Note from David Slade on Facebook

I just read an eloquent note from David Slade (director of Eclipse) to us fans on Facebook. He describes a day of shooting a scene in particularly bad weather, and the fans who braved this weather all night, waiting to catch a glimpse of the actors.

In his note, David says,
So, to those of you who stood behind our security, who waited in line at theatres overnight, to those of you who just love these stories, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse is a love letter to you.

Thank you, David Slade. I also cannot wait to see Eclipse.

26 more days!

Listen to the Eclipse Soundtrack! (until noon on June 3rd)

Before you pre-order your official Eclipse Soundtrack, you can listen to it on the Eclipse Soundtrack Preorder website.

But it's only available to listen to until noon tomorrow. (Thursday, June 3rd) The Eclipse Soundtrack will be available in stores next Tuesday, June 8th.

By the way, as Twi-K already posted, Hot Topic stores will be hosting an Eclipse Soundtrack Listening Party this Friday, June 4th at 7 p.m. in their stores. Check with your local store for details, and maybe we'll see you there!

By the way, I listened a bit to the Eclipse Soundtrack already, and I don't want to give too much away, but I really like it. It's very "Twilight-y" and upbeat, and pretty much what I expected, in a good way. Also, I love the track, "My Love" by Sia. I'm a sucker for romantic songs with lots of piano. :-)

I also love to guess where the music will be used in the movie. It's a completely different experience when I hear the soundtrack in the context of the movie, and it's cool to see if any of my guesses were correct.

28 days until Eclipse is in the theaters!

LA Convention Update!

OK, I just saw, on the convention website, that they just added a lot more guests. So that means Edward, Bella, Jacob, Carlisle, Esme, Alice, Rosalie, Sam, Paul, Leah, Seth, Embry, Quil, Emily, Billy, Eric, Mike, Angela, Marcus, Felix, Gianna, Riley & Victoria! are all going to be there. WOW! This is going to be so insane.

Thur Alma Marie and I are going shopping for the Centerpiece. I think we are going to do another scene from the movie. Alma Marie has such GREAT ideas. I can not wait to see what she comes up with. I will let you know what we get.

That is it for now. Until next time.
