Geocaching and Twilight

My family just got back from a vacation to the California Gold Country. We were introduced to a fun outdoor activity called "geocaching," where you use a GPS (or a phone/computer with a GPS in it) to follow clues to find containers called "caches." Apparently, people all over the world have been playing this game for about 10 years.

We signed up on the geocaching.com website to play this game, and we chose "Team TwiFam" (short for Twilight Family) for our team name.

We searched for several caches in Gold Country, and noticed that many of them had themes. So I checked out this website and found several Twilight-themed geocaches, including a really cool one in Forks, Washington. (Next time we're in Washington, we'll have to check this out!) It takes you on a tour of several Twilight locations from the book before you find the final cache. What a great idea for a Twilight tour! You can find out more about this Twilight cache by Blue Power Ranger here. You'll have to create your own account to view the specific GPS locations.

My kids have been begging me to create our own Twilight-themed geocache near our home. Perhaps we could make up a series of riddles to find a container filled with Twilight-themed goodies? I'll post more details about our geocache when we finalize them.

So, have any of you ever gone geocaching, or been lucky enough to find a Twilight-themed geocache? Let us know!

It looks like Eclipse has been doing pretty well at the Box Office. I'm still looking forward to seeing Eclipse in IMAX with Twi-K.

According to the Los Angeles Times (July 11, 2010), "Eclipse is playing virtually even with the last Twilight movie, New Moon ... Eclipse grossed a huge $237 million in its first 12 days, compared with $235.8 million for New Moon."

It'll be interesting to see how well the Eclipse DVD sells, too, when it becomes available.

Our next sidebar poll asks you which love theme from the Twilight Saga movies is your favorite?

Have fun voting!

How to Make an Eclipse Wolf Pack Mask

As requested by my "Team Wolf Pack" kids, here's a cool wolf mask you can make to look like a member of the Wolf Pack from The Twilight Saga: Eclipse movie.

Background Research
I looked through the Eclipse Official Illustrated Movie Companion for some ideas on how to make a wolf mask, and what colors to use for each member of the Wolf Pack. I used the photo on page 79 to identify the colors and patterns of their fur. My kids helped me choose the correct Crayola Crayon colors for each wolf in the photo, using their own crayons.

I used the photos on page 80 of the wolf stand-ins to design the shapes of the wolf face and nose.

Materials
This wolf mask is intended primarily for kids, so I used kid-friendly materials:
- 2 regular (8 1/2 x 11 inch) sheet of white paper
- a printer
- scissors
- a hole punch (or a sharp pencil)
- transparent tape
- 2 pieces of string or yarn (each about 18 inches long)
- Crayola Crayons (using these colors: brown, black, gray, timberwolf, sepia, and raw sienna)

Making the Wolf Mask
1. Print out a copy of the wolf face template and the wolf nose template. (These are both PDF files.)

2. Choose which member of the Wolf Pack you want to make:

- Seth (fur colors: raw sienna, sepia, and timberwolf)
- Quil (fur colors: sepia and black)
- Leah (fur colors: timberwolf and gray)
- Jacob (fur colors: brown and sepia)
- Paul (fur colors: gray and black)
- Sam (fur color: black and brown)
- Embry (fur color: timberwolf and black)
- Jared (fur color: black and sepia)

3. Color in your wolf's face and wolf's nose with your crayons, using the photo of the Wolf Pack members (see above) as a guide to fur colors and patterns.

4. Using your scissors, cut out the wolf face and wolf nose shapes. Then cut out the eye holes on the wolf face.

5. Using your scissors, cut along the dotted lines of your wolf face and wolf nose. Then attach the nose to the face by sliding the nose into the slots on the face, as shown below.

6. To hold the nose of your mask on better, turn over your mask and use transparent tape to tape the nose piece to the face, as shown below. (You might need help holding the nose in place as you stick on the tape.)

7. Using your hole punch (or a sharp pencil), punch out the two small holes on the sides of the wolf face.

8. To complete your mask, attach a piece of string to each side of your wolf face by poking the string through the small hole, making a thick knot in the string, then taping the string to your mask, as shown below.

9. You will need an adult (or friend) to help you with this final step. Hold the mask up on your face, them ask an adult to take the loose ends of the string and tie them behind your head so that your mask sits snugly over your face.

Your Wolf Pack mask is now complete!

If you like this craft project, please let us know below. Or email me a photo of your completed mask and I'll post it on our blog!

Breaking Dawn to be Filmed in Louisiana and Vancouver!

The Twilight Saga on Facebook (the Official Twilight series fan page) just announced that Breaking Dawn will be filmed in Vancouver and Louisiana.

Here's an excerpt from their announcement:
SUMMIT ENTERTAINMENT’S THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN TO BE FILMED IN LOUISIANA AND VANCOUVER

Summit Entertainment’s THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN will be filmed in both Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Vancouver over the next year starting this fall. The next chapter of THE TWILIGHT SAGA will be released as two separate films with the first of the two slated to be released in theatres on November 18, 2011.

Academy Award® winner Bill Condon will direct both films starring Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner along with Billy Burke as Charlie Swan as well as returning members of the Cullen Family including Peter Facinelli as Carlisle, Elizabeth Reaser as Esme, Jackson Rathbone as Jasper, Nikki Reed as Rosalie, Ashley Greene as Alice and Kellan Lutz as Emmett.

The project, based on the fourth novel in author Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series, is currently being written by Melissa Rosenberg with Wyck Godfrey, Karen Rosenfelt and Stephenie Meyer producing.

So, are there any beautiful tropical islands with white sandy beaches (i.e. Isle Esme) near Baton Rouge? I've never been to Louisiana, but maybe I can convince my husband to take a vacation there to check it out!

My Review of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse Soundtrack

So now that I've seen Eclipse twice and listened to the soundtrack over and over again for a few weeks, I'm ready to review the movie soundtrack.

Overall, this soundtrack offers a nice mix of lighter, more upbeat songs and heavy, angsty, melancholy (and sometimes spooky) love songs. The song choices fit in nicely with the theme of Eclipse.

Here are my current thoughts on each track, in order:

Eclipse (All Yours) by Metric is an upbeat pop theme song, perfect for the end credits.

The passionate teen anthem, Neutron Star Collision (Love is Forever) by Muse, is very catchy and easy to listen to. I really like where this song was played in the movie.

Ours by The Bravery is a bit teen angsty but has a great beat. It reminds me of I Melt With You by Modern English. Another great song for the end credits.

Heavy in Your Arms by Florence & The Machine is a powerful (and spooky) rock ballad with amazing vocals, lyrics, and instrumentation. Too bad this song was played during the end credits of the movie, after most of the audience had left! This song really rocks.

As I mentioned in another post, my favorite song, My Love by Sia, was used in my very favorite scene of the movie. Haunting and romantic, with gorgeous vocals. (I'm a sucker for ethereal strings and piano. It almost makes me cry.)

Atlas
by Fanfarlo is quirky, with clapping and banjos(?) I kind of like the vocal harmonies.

Chop and Change by the Black Keys, is a groovy, dark, retro, bad-girl kind of song that makes me think of Victoria and the newborns. This song was used exactly where I thought it belonged in the movie. Cool.

Rolling In On A Burning Tire
by The Dead Weather is also very cool and creepy. I love the heavy guitar riffs.

Let's Get Lost by Beck & Bat For Lashes, Jonathon Low by Vampire Weekend, With You in My Head by UNKLE Featuring the Black Angels, and A Million Miles An Hour by Eastern Conference, all have a light and airy (and sometimes psychedelic) feel to them. Nice atmospheric songs.

I like the acoustic guitar and vocal harmonies in Life On Earth by Band of Horses. A free and easy sound, a bit like Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young.

What Part Of Forever
by Cee Lo Green, is pop-y, with a Calypso edge to it. Very catchy and upbeat.

Jacob's Theme
by Howard Shore, is another gorgeous, bittersweet piano piece. Like The Meadow in New Moon, I felt that this song was the heart of the movie.

(Aside: I love Jacob's Theme so much that I figured out the piano music for it and started playing along with it on the piano while listening to it on my iPod. It's actually not a difficult song to learn if you play the piano.)

Bonus Tracks
The Line by the Battles and How Can You Swallow So Much Sleep by the Bombay Bicycle Club, are two additional tracks that provide more of the same driving, atmospheric music. Both songs are okay, but don't stand out in this amazing collection of songs.

(Confession: I listen to Jacob's Theme so much that I tend not to listen to the extra two tracks afterwards. I'm sure that affects my opinion of these tracks.)

Summary: I really like this album. If you own the other two Twilight Saga soundtracks, you'll probably like this one, too. It might even be the best of the soundtracks so far.

I bought this soundtrack, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Deluxe Edition) with two extra tracks, from amazon.com for $15.56. It comes in a cardboard CD case, and includes a small fold-out poster of Bella from Eclipse.

List of tracks:

1. Eclipse (All Yours) - Metric (3:45)
2. Neutron Star Collision (Love is Forever) - Muse (3:50)
3. Ours - The Bravery (3:48)
4. Heavy In Your Arms - Florence + The Machine (4:44)
5. My Love - Sia (5:11)
6. Atlas - Fanfarlo (3:27)
7. Chop And Change - The Black Keys (2:25)
8. Rolling In On A Burning Tire - The Dead Weather (3:53)
9. Let's Get Lost - Beck and Bat For Lashes (4:10)
10. Jonathan Low - Vampire Weekend (3:32)
11. With You In My Head - UNKLE (Feat. The Black Angels) (4:43)
12. A Million Miles An Hour - Eastern Conference Champions (4:07)
13. Life On Earth - Band Of Horses (5:30)
14. What Part Of Forever - Cee Lo Green (3:57)
15. Jacob's Theme - Howard Shore (2:27)

Bonus Tracks:

16. The Line - Battles
17. How Can You Swallow So Much Sleep - Bombay Bicycle Club

A Thank You note from David Slade on Facebook

I just got a post on my Facebook Wall from The Twilight Saga (the Official Twilight Series Fan Page on Facebook), entitled, "Thank You" - David Slade. The post is directed to us fans:
"Thank You" - David Slade

When you put your heart and soul into something as intense as the duration of a film production, you become completely lost in it. You focus on doing your very best to get it right each day and you work on this for so long that you assume an ownership of it.

When shooting The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, I always felt an awareness of how many people this film would reach and as a result, knew that this film did not just belong to myself, the producers and the studio, but more so, to all of you, the fans of The Twilight Saga.

At the end of the day, after all the hard work is done, all that's left is the film itself, and your overwhelmingly positive and supportive responses have made me feel like we must have done something right. As a filmmaker, this is a rare and strange feeling of connection with an audience of which I will never forget and I thank you all for it.

DAVID SLADE
JULY 2010

And thank you, David Slade, for making this film for us! You did a great job!

How I put together my Rosalie Costume for the Ball

Here's how I put together my Rosalie costume for the Volturi Vampire Ball at the LA Eclipse Convention back in June.

First, I looked at Rosalie's clothing from Twilight, New Moon, and the Eclipse previews (Eclipse hadn't been released in theaters yet.) I chose Rosalie's black dress from Bella's birthday party scene in New Moon.

To copy this look, I needed a black dress, black shoes, Rosalie's pendant necklace, earrings, and dressy vampire makeup.

I found an adjustable-length black dress (Evanese adjustable jersey tube dress) from Overstock.com.

It had adjustable side straps to pull the skirt up on the sides, which is similar to the style Rosalie wore, where the hem of her dress is shorter at the front. This dress was strapless, but Rosalie's dress had spaghetti straps, so I wore a black top with straps underneath my dress.

I found the "Victoria" black shoes (5 1/4 inch heels with 1 1/4 inch platform) at the Bakers shoe store. Even though the shoes were very tall, they fit very comfortably and weren't too bad to walk in. (Thanks, hubby, for helping me choose these gorgeous shoes!)

By the way, I was really excited to see that Ashley Greene (who plays Alice) wore the same Victoria shoes (in Blush color) to the LA Eclipse Convention. She has great taste!

I ordered Rosalie's Cullen pendant necklace from amazon.com.

I found some nice black chandelier earrings from Charlotte Russe.

I bought the Twilight Volturi Makeup Kit from Hot Topic (which is no longer in stock.) I used the darker lip gloss, allover shimmer, and purple eyeshadow for a really pretty effect.

...and here's the final result...me in my Rosalie costume at the Volturi Vampire Ball!

Burger King Eclipse Kids Meals (photos)

My kids and I ate lunch at Burger King this week, and picked up three BK Kids Meals with the Eclipse toys. My daughter and I got the Cullen Crest Ring (girls' toy) and my son got the Morphin' Jacob Wallet (boys' toy.)

The Cullen Crest ring opens (like a locket) to reveal a picture of Edward. It's a cool metallic hologram of Edward's face with subtle touches of color. A very cool ring, but sized for kids (and too small for me!)

Cullen Crest Ring (girls' meal toy:)

The Morphin' Jacob Wallet is also very cool. The front of the wallet shows the word "Eclipse", but you can move the wallet back and forth to see the image transform to a cool wolf head and wolf pack tattoo design. The back of the wallet show a red wolf head design. The inside of the wallet includes two cards with Jacob, Bella, and Edward. You can remove the cards from the card holders to see a stylized red/black/white howling wolf on the left and a nice wolf pack tattoo design on the right side. Very cool wallet, and nice workmanship for an inexpensive plastic toy!

Morphin' Jacob Wallet (boys' meal toy:)

The Eclipse image transforms into a wolf pack image:

Inside of Morphin' Jacob Wallet:

Here's our Burger King place mat with the list of Eclipse Game prizes (click to enlarge:)

And here are the BK Kids Meal bags (Team Jacob on one side, Team Edward on the other:)

Thanks, Twi-K, for letting us know about this cool Eclipse game at Burger King!

Well I just went to see Eclipse again with my husband and daughter and they both loved it. Well my daughter loved it and my husband said it was good. He liked it better Twilight and New Moon. You will her my daughter's review later.
I thought it was even better the second time. I was waiting for certain scenes and even though I saw it only once before I was saying the script with them. I keep going back and fourth on which scene was my favorite. (I have so many and it is always changing) Right now I think it is the Bed scene..... or maybe...... Bella's speech at the end.... or maybe....anytime Edward looks at Bella..... or .....I can not decide.
I am sure, just like Twilight, and New Moon I will see it many, many more times. How Many times did you see each Movie? Please comment below and let us know!
